Inferno is Micah Sherman's second E. F. Keebler violin. This extraordinary instrument was created in collaboration with the renowned fantasy-art sculptor James Lane Casey (a close personal friend of E. F. Keebler) who created the one-of-a-kind cast pewter devil's head specifically for this violin over a period of several months, and who put the final touches on its multi-colored finish the night of his death. The head contains two lasers that shine through the eyes, and a spark-throwing mechanism (no longer available, sorry!) that produces an inferno of sparks through the mouth. The fingerboard contains 79 LEDs arranged into a flame pattern and wired into several subgroups: the red outline stays on continuously, the orange regions blink back and forth when the lights are set to motion mode, and the yellow core responds to Micah's playing. The sides of the bout are illuminated by 92 LEDs that create a flickering-flame pattern that also responds to the music, and 12 additional lights are mounted in the mid-spine flame protrusions (six colored lights on the outside edges, and six white lights on the inside edges to illuminate illustrations that will be mounted on the sides of the spine in the future). The shell is a custom flame shape with both engraving and airbrush work.
