The Black Dragon is Michael Shulman's first E. F. Keebler violin. Its pickup system includes a number of subtle improvements (now included by default on every instrument) that clarify the tone when played through distortion effects, while leaving the unprocessed tone as rich as ever. At the scroll is a dragon's head with color-changing lights in the eyes and red lights in the mouth. The bout is specially shaped to resemble wings, and has color-changing lights around the edges and in the upper surface, as well as straplok connectors that allow the connection of a strap to help support the instrument, and even a flexible tail with a laser in the end.

This instrument was originally commissioned to replace a Mark Wood violin that was uncomfortable to play for extended periods of time. It is a perfect example of what is possible when I collaborate with a violinist to create an instrument that meets specific functional and aesthetic needs. The Black Dragon has allowed Michael Shulman's electric-violin tone and technique to reach new heights, and he has used it on MTV, at a fashion magazine event in Times Square, and at the opening of a Lamborghini dealership (among many other events). Michael's second E. F. Keebler instrument is now under construction.
